Study Abroad - Belize

Cost: $2,770 plus tuition

Compare the cultures of the Gullah-Geechee people of the low country coast of the southern United States and the Garifuna and Kriol people of coastal Belize. Learning about the Gullah-Geechee, Garifuna, and Kriol people’s coastal experiences within their country’s systems of justice and their historical development through a series of lectures, museum visits, and cultural performances. A highlight of this study tour is the cultural exchange program which involves living with a host family.  From the comparative feature of the tour, students will experience modern day Mayan culture in the cultivation of the Coca with which that culture is famously known for the drink once only consumed by the Ancient Maya Kings and Royal families.

The 12-week program, which runs from January 22 through April 14, 2017, is open to all Armstrong students, as well as University System of Georgia transient students, and offers a full roster of semester credits.
