(September 8, 2016)–The Career Services office hosted its first ever Gulfstream Career panel in Ogeechee Theatre. Over 80 students, faculty and staff attended the event to hear from five Gulfstream employees representing Information Technology, Application Development, Engineering, High Performance Computing, Marketing Communications and Finance. The Gulfstream panel took questions for an hour and welcomed students for informal conversation after the event.
Feedback from the panel discussion was favorable with 100% of students surveyed saying that they would recommend attending the Gulfstream Panel Discussion to a fellow student or alumnus and that the speakers were informative and engaging.
A majority of the students’ questions concerned internship opportunities at Gulfstream and each panelist expressed the importance of experiential opportunities during college. The panelists pointed out the benefits of internships to students, which include gaining real-world experience in a structured environment, working under supervision, clarifying career goals and applying what is learned in the classroom. The Gulfstream employees also acknowledged the many benefits that internships provide employers, such as gaining motivated students to help with projects and assignments, and allowing them to screen potential new employees in a cost-effective manner. Panelists discussed scenarios in which they hired their interns as full-time employees, including several recent Armstrong graduates. Gulfstream has just started posting 2017 internship positions for spring and summer. Students are encouraged to visit www.gulfstream.com/careers and search “interns.” All hiring decisions for 2017 will be completed by mid-November.
Career Services remaining events this semester include the Graduate School Fair on October 4th and the Fall Career Fair on November 2nd. Please check collegecentral.com/Armstrong for these events and ongoing workshops.
