(January 20, 2016) – Corine Ackerson-Jones has been appointed the director of TRiO Student Support Services at Armstrong State University. In this position, Ackerson-Jones will oversee the federally funded program that provides comprehensive academic coaching services, financial aid, financial literacy education and mentorship programs to students.
“We are so pleased to have Corine Ackerson-Jones serve as TRiO’s new director,” notes Associate Provost Dr. Delana A. Gajdosik-Nivens. “She is the perfect candidate to lead this new student success initiative at Armstrong.”
Ackerson-Jones joined Armstrong in 2006 as an academic advisor and served as coordinator of Recruitment and Retention for the College of Health Professions for more than six years. With a Master of Education and a B.S. from the University of Arkansas, Ackerson-Jones was honored as a scholar of the Executive Leadership Institute of the University System of Georgia and served as the 2012 chair of Armstrong’s Staff Advisory Council. She also garnered Armstrong’s Outstanding Service Award and Volunteer Service to the Community Award in 2013, as well as an Outstanding Staff Award in 2015.
Ackerson-Jones is an active community member, serving on the advisory board for the African-American Health Information and Resource Center, a division of St. Joseph’s/Candler Health Systems, as well as the Woodville-Tompkins High School Healthcare Science Advisory Committee. She also acts as a community advisor to Gulfstream’s Student Leadership Program, which operates in partnership with Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools.
