IT Services: VPN (Virtual private network)

A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network that provides users secure access to network resources from off campus. Before an Armstrong employee can be granted access to this network resource a Request for Off-Campus VPN Access form must be completed.

Instructions for connecting to the Armstrong VPN

  1. VPN access is required to be used with an Armstrong decaled laptop\desktop.
  2. If you have not yet installed this client, please follow these directions. 
    • Windows 10 Users
       Windows 10 users are advised to install the new Pulse Secure Desktop Client version. This installer can be downloaded here (64-bit). 
      • Find the Pulse icon in the system tray; note that it may be hidden by default and you may have to click the arrow in the system tray to expand the hidden icons.
      • Select the + symbol on the top right to add a connection.
      • Leave the Type: as the default (UAC or VPN).
      • Enter Armstrong under Name
      • Enter vpn.armstrong.edu under Server URL:.
      • Click Add.
    • Windows 7.x Users 
      From off-campus type the URL: https://vpn.armstrong.edu
      In the username and password section type your Active Directory username and password. (Active Directory credentials is the same information you use on your office computers.)
      If you run into problems with the automatic install, you can try the following instructions: 
      • Run the downloaded file by double clicking on the msi file. 
      • Java Popup “Select run this time”
      • Certificate select “Continue”
      • Yes
      • Yes
      • You will see a Junos Pulse popup once completed
    • Mac Users
      Mac users can use this  DMG file for installation
  3. With the VPN connection established,  Junos Pulse icon Pulse Icon will appear on the task bar near the Wireless signal icon or the battery charge indicator.
  4. You can now can now access resources that require an Armstrong connection. To disconnect from the VPN service, open Junos Pulse from the task bar, and then tap Disconnect.
  5. Next time you want to access the VPN look for the greyed out icon Inactive Pulse Icon  and open Junos Pulse from the task bar or use the Start menu, select All Programs, Select Juniper Networks, Select Junos Pulse, and Junos Pulse a second time. Tap the Connect button and when prompted, enter your Active Directory username and password, and then tap Connect.

From off-campus type the URL: https://vpn.armstrong.edu
In the username and password section type your Active Directory username and password. (Active Directory credentials is the same information you use on your office computers.)
