IT Services Announcement | Banner Scheduled Maintenance

Details: University System of Georgia (USG) will be applying upgrades to the Banner System. The upgrades are scheduled November 12 from 10:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. November 13.

Impact to Users: Users will not be able to access services such as SHIP, Degree Works, Banner, Axiom, Argos, Recruit, Banner Document Manager and various Port of Armstrong applications.

IT Services Announcement | Scheduled Emergency Maintenance

Details: University System of Georgia (USG) will be applying critical maintenance patches to the Banner System. The maintenance is scheduled September 9 from 10:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m. September 10.

Impact to Users: Users will not be able to access services such as SHIP, Degree Works, Banner, Axiom, Argos, Recruit, Banner Document Manager and various Port of Armstrong Applications.

IT Services Announcement | Scheduled Firewall maintenance

Details: University System of Georgia (USG) will be performing a scheduled maintenance to the firewall service environment. The maintenance is scheduled September 2 from 10:00 p.m. - 3:00 a.m. September 3.

Impact to users: Users may experience intermittent connectivity issues to services such as SHIP, eClassroom, Banner, Argos, Banner Document Management, Axiom, Ingress, iStrategy, Peoplesoft, USG Helpdesk and Port Applications.

IT Services Announcement | Collaborate Ultra

Blackboard has created a web based version for Collaborate called Ultra. IT Services will have the new version available to campus beginning August 1, 2016.
Collaborate Ultra provides:

Our goal is to transition all Collaborate users to the Ultra version by December 2016 in two phases.
Phase I - Scheduled to be completed by August 15, 2016. The eClassroom Integration (LTI) will be updated to Ultra and all sessions for Fall 2106 inside eClassroom will use the Ultra interface.
Phase II - Scheduled to be completed by December 15, 2016. All active Collaborate sessions offered outside of eClassroom will be moved to Ultra during Fall 2016 semester.

Security Breach

Details: Multiple news agencies are reporting that numerous major email providers, including Google which hosts service for Armstrong State, have fallen victim to a World Wide Security Breach which has compromised some user accounts.

Impact to users: Due to the severe nature of the security breach, ITS recommends the following:

  1. ALL users change their password at this time. You can do so by logging into Port.armstrong.edu; Click on the Change Password link in the top right corner.
  2. IT Services further recommends that you setup 2-Step Verification on your gmail account.  Instructions for setting this up can be found here.

 Active Phishing Attempt

Status:  IT Services has been made aware that an email PHISHING attempt is being distributed to campus from an internal armstrong.edu email account. If you receive a suspicious email and the message includes an attachment or link, please delete the message.  
Actions:  If you have received a suspicious email message, please delete the message immediately to prevent the possibility of installing a virus and/or malware on your computer.

Phishing Attempt 

Details: IT Services has been made aware that an email PHISHING attempt has been distributed to campus. If you receive a message that is from someone that you are not aware of and the message includes an attachment (zip or pdf), please delete the message.  Do not click on the message as this will likely infect your machine and cause issues with your email account.
Actions:  If you have received a suspicious email message, please delete the message immediately to prevent the possibility of installing a virus and/or malware on your computer. Additional tips on preventing viruses on your computer can be found on ITS Security Resources webpage.

Details: After monitoring the situation for several hours, University System of Georgia (USG) Office of ITS has confirmed normal stability of eClassroom. The system should continue to operate normally; root cause has not been determined, and will be made available on the USG status information page.
Impact to Users: eClassroom customers should not experience further issues.


3/24/16

Details: [RESOLVED] IT Services is continuing to work with vendors in efforts to resolve the issues that caused an interruption in services. We have not experiences any additional outages since approximately 12:40 p.m.
Impact to Users: Armstrong resources are currently available.


3/23/16

Details: [RESOLVED] IT Services has been working with support and have made the recommended adjustments in efforts to stabilize campus internet resources. As a result, services have been restored and are expected to remain stable.
Impact to Users: All Armstrong network services are now available, including the Armstrong wireless network.

Subject: Collaborate Outage | Resolved
Details: Collaborate experienced a service outage for approximately 15 minutes. IT Services has received notification that services have been restored. If you continue to experience issues, please contact IT Services at 912-344-2518 or helpdesk@armstrong.edu.

3/21/16

Details: [RESOLVED] IT Services experienced a hardware failure on the primary firewall today at approximately 12:15pm which resulted in a complete loss of services. As a result, we failed over to redundant hardware at which time ALL services including wireless were restored at approximately 12:35pm.
Impact to Users: All Armstrong network services are now available, including the Armstrong wireless network.

eClassroom Downtime:  Starting Friday, March 18 at 10 PM through Saturday, March 19th at 7 AM
Details: The Armstrong eClassroom (D2L) will undergo maintenance to update from 10.5.4 to 10.5.5 as part of the Continuous Delivery updates. Visit the Continuous Delivery website for a list of complete details.
Impact to Users: eClassroom will be unavailable during this maintenance window.


3/17/16

Description: IT Services will be performing testing to validate business continuity on Armstrong’s internet service environment. The maintenance is scheduled for Thursday, March 17, from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
Impact to Users: The Armstrong community should expect intermittent or total loss of Internet connectivity  (e.g. Banner, SHIP, and Port Apps, etc.) during the planned testing window.

Subject: eClassroom Service Interruption - RESOLVED
Details: Due to network issues with USG, Armstrong eClassroom is currently experiencing intermittent accessibility issues. USG is currently investigating and working to resolve this issue.
Impact to Users: eClassroom users may experience accessibility issues at this time. Additional information will be provided to campus as the USG makes it available. Details can be viewed on the USG status information page.

(July 26, 2016) – Armstrong State University recently promoted Tim Moody, an information technology leader with 22 years of industry experience, to Chief Information Officer. In his new position, Moody is responsible for strategy and implementation of all technology at the main campus in Savannah and the Armstrong Liberty Center in Hinesville. He also serves as a key advisor on the President’s Cabinet at Armstrong.
