Internships are a valuable way for students to gain practical work experience while still in college. An internship is usually a one semester work experience and often occurs in the summer, though not always. Internships can be paid or unpaid, full-time or part-time, and sometimes you can earn academic credit. These factors vary by career field, academic major at Armstrong, and employer. Internship eligibility varies by employer and major. Some employers and majors will allow students who are freshmen to complete an internship, while others require a higher academic level or specific GPA.
Internships at Armstrong fall under each individual academic department, and the determination to award credit lies solely with your department and advisor. However, to make your search for an internship easier, please view our Armstrong Internship Guide, which can serve as an introduction to what an internship is and where you might find one. If you are an Art, Music, or Theatre student, we have an AMT Internship Guide especially for you, complete with recommendations of local employers who might host an intern. If you are an Engineering Studies student, we also have a specific Engineering Internship Guide for you. For students interested in an internship with a federal government agency, please view our Armstrong Federal Job Guide. Before committing to an internship, be sure to check with your academic department to ensure you have met all of their criteria.
