You will gain valuable field placement and internship experience in cooperating local schools. These experiences are integrated throughout major courses. Also, an active Student Georgia Association of Educators (SGAE) chapter offers excellent opportunities for involvement in a professional education organization.
- develop elementary teachers, pre-school through grade five, who teach using research-based effective teaching practices
- develop highly skilled elementary teachers who can serve a broad spectrum of constituencies
- serve the needs of individuals within the Armstrong service area in southeast Georgia
- teach so all learn the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards
- prevent early learning difficulties that may ultimately lead to school failure
- support area communities’ efforts to improve elementary school education
Courses & Requirements
The undergraduate program in Early Childhood Education leads to full eligibility for initial State of Georgia teaching certification for grades P-5. During your course of study, you will complete 47 semester hours of coursework in the major (including a semester-long Pre-Student Teaching Internship and a semester-long Student Teaching Internship) and 265 hours of related field work.
Admission to Candidacy
You must be Admitted to Candidacy to matriculate. In order to be regularly admitted to candidacy, students must satisfy all regular program admission requirements and submit as one packet all documents identified in the Admission to Candidacy Application. It is recommended you make an appointment with your advisor three (3) weeks prior to submitting your admission paperwork. Newly admitted candidates must attend a mandatory orientation meeting as posted on the College of Education Blog (COEBlog)
