Education SAPE: B.S.Ed. Health & Physical Education

Graduates of this program will be recommended for a Certificate of Eligibility in P-12 in the area of Health and Physical Education. Throughout matriculation you gain experience working with local teachers and students to enhance your knowledge and skills required to evaluate, plan and provide health and physical programs to diverse age and ability levels for long-term healthy living.

Program Outcomes

Students will accomplish the following objectives:

  1. Plan and implement a variety of developmentally appropriate instructional techniques to enhance learning and engagement in physical activity settings.
  2. Demonstrate mastery of the necessary knowledge related to health and physical education.
  3. Use technology to enhance learning and to enhance personal and professional productivity.
  4. Reflect on experiences as they relate to students, the teaching environment and their performance.
  5. Build professional relations with colleagues throughout the community.
  6. Engage in professional development, demonstrate ethical conduct in working with all constituencies and reflect upon instruction and student learning to assess teaching effectiveness.


You must be Admitted to Candidacy to matriculate. In order to be regularly admitted to candidacy, students must satisfy all regular program admission requirements and submit all documents identified in the Admission to Candidacy Application. It is recommended you make an appointment with your advisor three weeks prior to submitting your admission paperwork.

Format:  On-Campus
Credits: 124 semester hours

The undergraduate program of study in Health and Physical Education leads to full eligibility for initial State of Georgia teaching certification for grades P-12.  Application information is available and you may be admitted during any semester. Please see the course rotation schedule for semester specific details. 

The Georgia Professional Standards Commission, the state licensing body for teacher certification, requires teacher candidates to spend time observing and working with children in a school setting before Internship II. Many of the courses within the program of study will include assignments working with public school children to complete different activities in a variety of settings and grade levels. There will be specific forms documenting said observations, which will become part of the permanent record. Failure to complete this requirement will result in an incomplete grade for the course in question.
