Toys for Tots Campaign Makes the Season Bright

Thanks to a collaborative effort by the Student Government Association, the Athletics Department, Collegiate 100 and the Staff Advisory Council, many children in the Coastal Empire will have toys in their stockings this holiday season. The organizations teamed up to collect more than 350 toys as part of the local Toys for Tots campaign, which is run by the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve. The toys were presented to U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots representative Sgt. Michael Harris on December 6, during a campus holiday reception that followed President Bleicken’s annual tree planting ceremony.

Over the past month, the campus organizations coordinated an aggressive campaign to collect toy donations at numerous locations across campus and to accept toy contributions in exchange for admission at Armstrong’s campus Variety Show and at select home basketball games.

“This was a great collaborative effort and a wonderful opportunity for Armstrong to help local Savannah youth,” said Megan Feasel, a member of Armstrong's Staff Advisory Council Outreach committee. “We would like to thank Sgt. Harris, the local Savannah coordinator for Toys for Tots. We greatly appreciate his service and distributing the toys to the families.”

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and to distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. By delivering shiny new holiday toys, Toys for Tots strives to deliver a message of hope to needy youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.
