Armstrong Welcomes Largest Freshman Class Ever

The largest freshman class in university history is moving into campus housing in anticipation of the start of classes on August 16.

Freshmen students, now required to live on campus for the first time, are enjoying a brand new residence hall that will serve as their home away from home. Windward Commons— a four-story housing complex with private and semi-private suites—will provide freshmen student very cozy living quarters. Windward will also offer special programming to help them get on the right track to graduation.

These special programs—we call them living-learning communities—will serve as an extension of academic life for the first few weeks of the semester. They are designed to help students develop bonds with one another and the university. Students may select to participate in living-learning communities focused on fitness and wellness, education, honors and science, or technology engineering and mathematics. Interaction with professors outside the classroom and participation in special field trips, research activities and social programs are all part of the equation.

Within a short walking distance of Windward Commons, students will find the new hub of student activity on campus. The Student Union, completed in spring, boasts a 200-seat theater, food-court style dining hall, expansive bookstore and plenty of lounges and office space for student organizations.
