"Teaching a Spanish class was a different experience from anything else I've had the opportunity to do. Helping others learn and understand something new is very rewarding."--Luciana

Favorite Pirate experience? It is hard to say. You shouldn't miss any! You can find yourself having fun at the beach, in a comedy show, a sporting event, drama play...you name it!
What do you love about AASU? The affordable, quality education offered in a multicultural environment. I was also drawn to AASU's location. Savannah is such a beautiful, charming city. It is immersed in art and history and it is only a few minutes from the beach.
Best advice: Keep your priorities in the right order and always remember that with perseverance your dreams will come true.
"Teaching a Spanish class was a different experience from anything else I've had the opportunity to do," said Luciana, who's on track to receive her bachelor's in Spanish in December 2009. "Helping others learn and understand something new is extremely rewarding."
As an international student, Luciana can easily relate to mastering a second language and forging new paths. After graduating from high school in Buenos Aires, she embraced the opportunity to attend school in the United States after her father was assigned to a job in Dallas.
"I wanted to learn a new language and a new culture because I knew it would be an enriching experience for me," she said.
The transition to a new life was not easy, but Luciana was willing to adjust. After a few months in Dallas, she relocated to Miami—attracted by South Florida's vibrant Latino culture—and enrolled in a community college, taking English and graphic design classes. Since joining AASU in 2007, she has found that Savannah and Armstrong Atlantic provide an environment that is warm and welcoming.
A recipient of a Goizueta Foundation Scholarship, Luciana has been able to maintain a full-time class schedule while keeping a work-study position on campus.
"AASU is a challenging school and I've had very good experiences with the faculty members here," she said. "There are many activities and opportunities you can pursue, both academically and socially."

A Knack for Teaching
Luciana Tobal discovered she had a knack for teaching while pursuing her associate degree. The Argentina native rediscovered her talent after deciding to teach a Spanish class for beginner speakers through AASU's Department of Professional and Continuing Education. After teaching the class, Luciana, a Spanish major, became certain that earning a master's in education was the next step in her career."Teaching a Spanish class was a different experience from anything else I've had the opportunity to do," said Luciana, who's on track to receive her bachelor's in Spanish in December 2009.
