"You are not one of thousands of students."--Alida

Alida Müller-Wehlau

Hometown:Flensburg, Germany
Proud Member of AASU Class of 2010
Major: Economics (Minor in French)

Why I chose Armstrong: I knew Caroline Grage, who was on the team from 2002-2006. I always heard how great it is here and how good the tennis program is. So I asked her if it made sense to write an email to Simon to ask if I could play for the Lady Pirates. She said "Sure, just write him an email and I'm going to his office to tell him about you!" Some days later he wrote me back and offered me the scholarship. Armstrong is a good school academically and athletically. Also, Savannah is a very nice city and I love the warm weather!
Why I love AASU:: I like AASU because it's a nice and green campus and everything is in walking distance. Also it's a smaller university thus the relationship to the professors is better. You are not one of thousands of students. They really care about you and they help everywhere they can.
Best advice: Be organized and do everything as efficient as u can do it, but give yourself some time to relax and live your life, too!
Favorite Pirate Experience: The National Championships of 2008 2009 of course!!!

Born with a racket in hand, tennis star Alida Müller-Wehlau has been a rising star at Armstrong Atlantic State University. Coming all the way from Germany this sophomore Lady Pirate wasn’t going to settle for good, only great would do.

Alida was ready for success before she ever arrived in the states. Already having received plenty of press and publicity for her tennis talents and rankings as high as 10th in the nation before she could drive, Alida was moving nowhere but up by the time she made her way to Armstrong Atlantic.

As the Peach Belt Freshman of the year in 2008 Alida was a driving force in the fight for the 2008 and 2009 NCAA Division II National Championship title brought home by the Lady Pirates. In addition to being awarded freshman of the year and the bragging rights to two national championship, Alida was an ITA All American in singles and doubles, and an ITA Scholar Athlete.

Alida’s successes emerge on and off the court. As a freshman at Armstrong Atlantic she came to the university already having served an apprenticeship at a porting agency back in Germany. Now majoring in economics, this lady pirate dreams of one day managing the flow of international cargo, making her living near the call of the sea.
