Welcome to the Department of History
If you love history, what could be better than enrolling as a history major at Armstrong Atlantic State University in the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia? Not far from the university, students can browse archives to discover original documents pertaining to the colonial era, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, African American history, women's history, southern culture, and other areas of interest to the historian.
History majors will embark upon a course of study that will introduce them to a broad variety of topics and themes. Furthermore, the public history program, which taps into the rich resources throughout the city, provides students with important links to local museums and historic sites.
The History Department's full-time faculty, all of whom hold doctoral degrees, represent a broad range of scholarly expertise, including American and European history, the history of science and technology, East Asian history, southern studies, the history of the Middle East, gender and women's studies, the history of Latin America, public history, and geography. AASU's History Department offers a Bachelor's Degree in History and a Master's Degree in History or Public History, and is home to the Sigma Theta Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society.
