Wearing maroon t-shirts, hundreds of Armstrong students, faculty, staff, alumni and community supporters gathered in Johnson Square on Wednesday, April 3 to celebrate the inaugural Paint the Town Maroon rally.
“It’s always good to uplift people and help raise money for our school,” said Armstrong senior Fiona Owens. “Scholarships are really important to today’s students in order to be successful.”
Sponsored by The Savannah Bank, Paint the Town Maroon included remarks by Armstrong president Dr. Linda M. Bleicken, vice president of advancement William Kelso, Student Government Association president Andy Cabistan and Savannah Bank president John C. Helmken II. The event concluded with free, custom-flavored ice cream (in Armstrong’s signature maroon and gold colors) from Leopold’s Ice Cream and cookies from Savannah-area McDonald’s.
“What I love about today’s event is looking around and seeing all the Armstrong supporters out there and seeing everyone come together for a common goal and reaching a successful financial accomplishment,” said Armstrong senior Cierre Jones.
The event underscored Armstrong’s impact in the community as well as the fact that the university has raised a record $853,600 for the Armstrong Foundation in just the first three quarters of the fiscal year. All proceeds help support Armstrong scholarships, academic programs and student success. This is a big step forward in achieving the Office of Advancement’s goal to hit the $1 million mark before the end of June.
