BLAST - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is BLAST?

A: BLAST is Armstrong Atlantic State University's emergency communication system. The system is designed to send vital messages to your designated emergency phone number and email address in the event of a disruption of normal campus operations or in the case of an emergency. BLAST may also be used periodically to inform the AASU community about important events on campus.

For caller ID purposes, please add the BLAST telephone number, 912-344-2885, to your mobile devices. This will enable you to identify when a BLAST notice is being delivered to you.

Q: Who needs to have information in the BLAST Emergency Communication System?

A: The BLAST system contains information for all AASU faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students.

Q: How do I update my BLAST information?

A: Your BLAST information can be updated by logging in to the Port of Armstrong and clicking on the "Update Your BLAST Contact Information" link located in the Operational Status portlet of your Port of Armstrong homepage.

Q: What is my AASU ID number?

A: Your AASU ID number is a unique number which identifies you across multiple systems at Armstrong Atlantic State University. Your AASU ID is the number used as your User ID for logging into SHIP.

Q: Where can I find my AASU ID number?

A: If you do not know your AASU ID number you may look it up by clicking the link "Lookup ID" from the Port of Armstrong login screen. You will then be prompted to enter your personal credentials, Click Lookup ID.

Q: Who do I need to contact if I can't update my information?

A: If you are unable to update your BLAST information, you will get an error message letting you know who to contact.

Q: What information is stored in the BLAST system?

A: Currently the BLAST system obtains your last name, first name, phone number, mailing address, and email address from SHIP.

Q: How often will I be asked to update my BLAST information?

A: The system will need to be updated at the beginning of each semester in order to keep it up-to-date.

Q: How often can I update my BLAST information?

A: Your BLAST information can be updated at any time by logging in to the Port of Armstrong and clicking on the "Update Your BLAST Contact Information" link located in the Operational Status portlet of your Port of Armstrong homepage.

Q: What number will show up on Caller ID when Armstrong sends out a BLAST message?

A: BLAST messages will be sent from 912-344-2885.

Q: What type of BLAST messages can I receive?

A: The BLAST system can send a voice mail message to the telephone number you designate as home, cell or alternate in the Blast interface. Blast can send an email message to your Armstrong email account. SMS text messaging is an additional way you can receive notification in the event of an emergency on campus. SMS text messaging does not replace the voicemail messages or email notifications. AASU is not responsible for any charges you may incur for using the SMS text message option.
