Dr. Shields and Dr. Nivens present a poster

George Shields (Dean, CST) and Delana Nivens (Chemistry, STEP Director) attended the NSF Sponsored STEP Grantees Meeting March 3-5 2010. They presented a posted entitled "Bridging the Gap: Using Research and Learning Communities to Increase STEM Majors at AASU: Year 1 Progress " which detailed the 1 year accomplishments of the STEP program at Armstrong. Dr. Shields was a featured panelist at the breakout session entitled "Early Undergraduate Research and Internships." The NSF-STEP program at Armstrong, funded in 2009, provides up to $1 million dollars over 5 years to engage science, engineering and math majors in undergraduate research and learning communities during their freshman and sophomore years at AASU. Sabrina Hessinger (math) is also a Co-PI on the project.
