Dr. Richard Wallace, chemistry, is consulting with the Edison & Ford Winter Estates to restore the Thomas Edison Laboratory.  Thomas Edison and Henry Ford both had winter homes in south Florida and Edison opened a botanical laboratory on the estate to further his research in the use of plant materials for industrial capacity and national security. One focal point of the work carried out during the early stages of the World War II was to find alternatives to rubber which could be grown and cultivated in the United States versus being imported from countries under Axis control.  To learn more about the project click here and to learn more about the Edison and Ford Estates click here.
