Chemists attend POGIL workshop in Tampa Florida
Dr. Lea Padgett and Ms. Yvonne Roach attended a 3 day POGIL training workshop in Tampa Florida June 20-22, 2013. During the workshop, an introduction to POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning) and the benefits of active learning in the classroom. Conducted in a POGIL-based learning environment, structuring and authoring of POGIL activities was explored in depth with emphasis on good facilitation of student-centered classrooms. The use of technology was also discussed. The chemistry program has many guided inquiry activities in its curriculum, including a green chemistry / guided inquiry curriculum that has been used in general chemistry laboratory for the past 3 years.
