Pre-Veterinary Medicine Pathway
Students interested in Pre-Veterinary Medicine typically major in Biology but can be ANY MAJOR provided they take the correct pre-requisites. Pre-veterinary medicine is not an academic major, but a collection of courses designed to help you meet the requirements for admission to veterinary school Students are advised on the best course of study by a college advisor (as a freshmen or sophomore) or faculty member in their major department. We encourage all students to contact an advisor early in their academic careers to ensure they choose the most appropriate curriculum. Veterinary medicine program admission is very competitive. Students must have high science and math GPA’s and they must score well on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and the Biology subject portion of the GRE. In addition to course work, most veterinary programs require that you have experience working in a veterinarian office and have a letter of support from a veterinarian.
The pre-veterinary medicine program prepares students to take the GRE and apply for admission to veterinary school. After graduating from Armstrong, students apply to veterinary school to complete their training to become a veterinarian. A veterinarian has a variety of practice opportunities, including working in hospitals and private practice.
