Department of Middle and Secondary Education
Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education
Graduates, upon completion of all requirements, are certified to teach fourth through eighth grades in the State of Georgia. Our degree program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and certified by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC).
Career Opportunities
Upon completion of this degree, students are eligible to teach elementary school in the State of Georgia in both public and private schools. Teachers in middle grade levels are in demand, and our graduates are employed in Chatham County as well as surrounding counties, in other parts of the state, and nationally.Program Features
We expect our students to become proficient in the use of technology in the classroom, and technology is woven into every education course. In addition, The Technology Center for teacher educators offers a variety of technologies available for classroom infusion.A high percentage of our graduates pass the Certification Test on their first attempt, which is due in part to the personalized attention they receive because of our low student-to-faculty ratio, and is also due in part to the field experiences students acquire that are integrated throughout major courses.
An active Student Georgia Association of Educators (SGAE) and a Collegiate Middle Level Association chapter offer excellent opportunities for involvement in a professional education organization. Students who choose to may also go on to earn a Master’s degree.
