Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS)
This multi-disciplinary degree emphasizes breadth of learning. In place of the traditional major field courses, BLS students take additional courses in the humanities, social sciences, mathematics and sciences, and communication arts.

Associate of Arts (AA)
The AA degree provides a substantial liberal education as a base for upper-division specialization.

Career Opportunities

The Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree is designed for mature students with clearly defined academic and career goals. Working closely with an advisor, the student prepares an individual program of study that is consistent with his or her expectations and plans.

BLS graduates find employment with social service agencies, governmental organizations, industries and businesses. Many employers seek broadly educated individuals for managerial and/or administrative positions for which specific orientation is provided after employment.

Course of Study

The Associate of Arts consists of 44 semester hours of core curriculum courses and 18 semester hours of course work related to a baccalaureate degree or career objective. Students pursuing a Bachelor of Liberal Studies take additional courses numbered 2000 or higher in the humanities, social sciences, mathematic and sciences and communication arts. An area of concentration must be selected from any minor approved by the University System of Georgia (see partial list below). Up to 27 semester hours of electives are available to students. Additional degree requirements include earning at least 39 semester hours of credit in courses numbered 3000 or higher, with no more than 27 degree hours from any one discipline.

Concentrations include African American Studies, applied physics, art, biology, chemistry, communications, computer science, criminal justice, economics, engineering studies, English, European Union studies, film, foreign languages, gender & women’s studies, health science, history, information technology, international studies, leadership studies, legal studies, linguistics, mathematics, mental health, military science, music, organizational psychology, philosophy, physical education, physical sciences, political science, psychology, public history, religious studies, sociology, theatre, transnational crime and writing.
