Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education

Graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education receive an initial T-4 license upon completion of requirements and are certified to teach preschool through fifth grade in the state of Georgia.

Our degree program is Accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and certified by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC).

Career Opportunities

Graduates of Early Childhood Education programs are in demand, and the employment outlook for elementary teachers is positive. Our graduates are employed in Chatham County as well as surrounding counties, in other parts of the state, and nationally.

Upon completion of this degree, students are eligible to teach elementary school in the State of Georgia in both public and private schools.

Program Facilities and Features

ECE students gain valuable field experiences and internships in cooperating local schools. We integrate field experiences throughout major courses. Because we have a low student-to-faculty ratio, our students get personalized education in all areas of teacher education.

An active Student Georgia Association of Educators (SGAE) chapter offers excellent opportunities for involvement in a professional education organization. A master’s degree is also offered.

Course of Study

The 120-hour curriculum, plus three hours of Physical Education, leading to a degree in early childhood education includes core curriculum requirements as well as professional courses. Core courses include English, college algebra, science, history, political science, geography, psychology, education and physical education. The 60 hours of major courses include field experiences plus a 15-week student teaching internship.
