About this event:
"In Celebration of our Independence”, the Savannah Winds, community wind symphony in residence at Armstrong, concludes its 2013-2014 subscription season by honoring America, her service men and women, and veterans of the United States armed forces with its highly popular Annual Patriotic Concert.

The festivities include brilliant marches of America's iconic "March king" John Philip Sousa, the uplifting music of legendary composer Irving Berlin and the "blessing of America" to the tune of country-western songwriter Lee Greenwood.

Major General John M. Murray, Commanding General of the United States Army 3rd Infantry Division will read a stirring patriotic narration to the Winds' performance of America, the Beautiful. The 3ID's Honor Guard will present our great nation's Colors to open the concert.

The Winds will also perform a tribute to Robert Cutler, Lieutenant Commander, United States Coast Guard (Retired) who is Chatham County Veterans Council reigning Veteran of the Year.

This majestic concert event honors distinguished military service and crescendos to great fanfare culminating with a tongue-in-cheek appearance by one of America's celebrity personas to guest conduct the Winds in performance of John Philip Sousa's bombastic Stars and Stripes Forever. Last year, the Liberty Bell – or a reasonable facsimile of such – conducted the grand finale. The identity of this year's surprise iconic guest will be revealed at the concert, and there will be a raffle during intermission to guess who will take the podium for this final musical salute.
