Dr. Douglas Wertsch is a native of Des Moines, Iowa. He received a B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Iowa State University. His dissertation was, “Resisting the Wave: Rural Iowa’s War Against Crime, 1920-1941” was published by The Edwin Mellon Press, Lewiston, New York (1997). He received the Teaching Excellence Award; College of Humanities, Iowa State University.
In 1998 Dr. Wertsch presented a paper on the “Historiography of American History.” to the faculty and graduate students of the College of History of Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland. In 2000 he was the only American invited to the History 2000 Convention at Bath-Spa University, Bath, England. He presented the paper “Engaging Student Interest in the Classroom.”
Dr. Wertsch came to AASU after retiring from Athens State University, Athens, Alabama.
