About this event:
The Armstrong Masquers student theatre troupe announces auditions for its Fall season productions, open to the public, beginning at 6 p.m. in Armstrong Jenkins Hall Theater.

Auditions for Dreams of Anne Frank, Killer Joe and The Amen Corner are on Monday, August 19th and Tuesday, August 20th. 30 minutes preceding the Monday auditions, the Masquers invite interested Armstrong students to a “meet-and-greet” session at Jenkins to learn about student opportunities in the Masquers troupe.

Auditions for its Fall IMPROV production, also open to the public are scheduled for Friday, August 23rd and Saturday, August 24th in the afternoon before the Company of Wayward Saints performances. IMPROV performances are scheduled for the evenings of September 6-7. Call for exact time of auditions.

Audition sides will be provided on site. Prepared comedic monologues are also welcome. Auditions are open to the public.

Each director will announce casting and production schedule information within the week following auditions.


Dreams of Anne Frank September 19-22
book & lyrics by Bernard Kops, music by David Burman

Winner of the Time Out award for best children's production during its London premiere, this imaginative play with music de mystifies and humanizes Anne Frank's story of tremendous bravery.

Killer Joe October 24-27
a full-length dark comedy by Tracy Letts

Hired by the dissolute Smith family to murder the matriarch for insurance money, Killer Joe takes the daughter to bed as a retainer against his final payoff which sets in motion a bloody aftermath as the "hit man" meets his match. This exciting play premiered at Chicago's Steppenwolf before going on to acclaimed productions in London and New York. Audience discretion is advised for content and language.

The Amen Corner November 14-24
a comic drama in three acts by James Baldwin.

Self-anointed Harlem storefront preacher Margaret Alexander is the leader of her flock who is about to see her world crumble. Her son and church organist, David, is set on following in the footsteps of his father, jazz musician, Luke. When the errant husband and father comes home to die, Sister Margaret finds herself losing everything but coming to terms with her own true sense of faith.
