About this event:
For more than two centuries, the United States Marine Band has been part of events that have shaped our nation. Established by an Act of Congress in 1798, the Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Its primary mission is unique—to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps. On this night, "The President's Own" provides music for Savannah, bringing an extraordinary performance of music by the masters and by John Philip Sousa, the march king and Marine Band's 17th director.
“What a magnificent band this is. I was going to say unsurpassed, but I think I should amend that to unsurpassable.” — Gramophone Magazine
“The U.S. Marine Band [is] a band now judged by experts to be the best the world has ever produced.” — TIME magazine
“The band continued to exhibit its extraordinary mix of precision, electrifying response, polished phrasing, and meticulous articulation.” — The Washington Post
