African American Studies

The purpose of African American Studies is to allow students of any ethnic background to recognize and understand the important role African Americans have played in defining and developing American society, to address the implications of being “black” in America, and to experience the artistic endeavors put forth by those of African descent. Its interdisciplinary focus explores areas such as rhetoric and communication, history, literature, politics, religion, the arts, and education, as they relate to the African American experience.
