Department of Nursing Hosts Medical Explorer Post Students
On Thursday, January 20, 2011, the Department of Nursing at Armstrong Atlantic State University hosted the Memorial Medical Explorer Post students for a special Exploring event focusing on Nursing Careers. Twenty-four high school juniors and seniors representing seven local public high schools participated in a series of four different hands-on activities with various simulations. Nursing professors, Gina Crabb, Amber Derksen, Trina Embrey, Michelle Hendley, Cherie McCann, Debbie Mulford, Marilyn O'Mallon, and Luzviminda Quirimit, facilitated the students hands-on learning on correct handwashing techniques, ophthalmoscope use, first aid procedures, and more. Explorers were even able to practice basic skills on patient simulators that exhibited pulse, blood pressure and even talked!
