Respiratory Therapy

Work Environment

Under the supervision of a physician, respiratory therapists administer respiratory care and life support to patients with heart and lung difficulties. Respiratory care practitioners work with advanced medical technology, and generally work between 35 and 40 hours a week. Therapists work evenings, nights, and weekends. They spend long periods standing and walking between patient's rooms. In emergencies, therapists experience situational stress.
