Program Progression - Communication Sciences BS


Undergraduate Progression

The following benchmarks are required for progression through degree program for the Bachelor of Science in communication sciences and disorders. Students interested in majoring in communication sciences and disorders should contact the department for advisement (912.344.2969).

The Program of Study  is a document that outlines the courses required in the major and the order in which they are taken. 

Freshman Year

  • Recommended: Maintain 3.0 or better overall GPA
  • Meet with your CSDS advisor and begin tracking program of study
  • 30 semester hours completed

Sophomore Year

  • Recommended: Maintain 3.0 or better overall GPA
  • Meet with your CSDS advisor and continue tracking program of study
  • Take CSDS 1220
  • Declare major in SHIP (if haven't yet done so)

Junior Year

  • Recommended: Maintain 3.0 or better overall GPA
  • Meet with your CSDS advisor and continue tracking program of study
  • Begin blocked CSDS courses
  • Complete 10 hours of community service; documentation pdf due May 1st.
  • Begin 25 supervised hours of observation (ASHA requirement); documentation pdf due in Senior Year.
  • Completion of CSDS and related field coursework with a "C" or better
  • Plan for graduation
  • Take departmental speech, language, and hearing screening

Senior Year

  • Recommended: Maintain 3.0 or better overall GPA
  • Completion of CSDS and related field coursework with a "C" or better
  • Complete supervised observation hours; documentation due by April 15 for May grads and November 15 for December grads
  • Apply for December graduation by Aug 31
  • Apply for May graduation by Jan 31
  • Complete undergraduate program exit survey 

Note: It is the student’s responsibility to follow the benchmarks, initiate and maintain contact with their academic advisor. No exceptions to the requirements will be made.
