Student Awards in the Department of Early Childhood Education

Two awards are available to students in the department, one for Excellence in Leadership and another for Exemplary Service. Students must see a faculty member if you would like to be nominated. Deadline for nominations is February 1st.

Requirements for Early Childhood Education Leadership Award

• holds office in community and/or professional organization
• contributes significantly in classroom leadership
• assumes active role in contributing to the learning environment
• demonstrates initiative in responding to perceived needs
• promotes professional involvement of others
• builds relationships within the group
• empowers others
• maintains a vision of possibilities
• demonstrates positive attitude
• exemplifies an engaging, inviting, and encouraging
  sense of community

Requirements for Early Childhood Education Service Award

• shows concern for others
• recognizes the importance of service to others
• works with community or civic organizations
• involved in Week of the Young Child planning and/or other professional activity
• contributes to the community (makes a commitment and makes a difference)
• demonstrates responsibility in responding to needs
• seeks opportunity to serve others and the community
• exemplifies an engaging, inviting, and encouraging sense of community
