Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction


Curriculum and Instruction degree programs prepare students to teach, plan, and create courses for schools and education programs. Students will perform intensive study about specific ages, grade levels and subjects, as well as learn how to use and evaluate teaching materials. Graduates of curriculum and instruction programs will demonstrate teaching proficiency and an advanced level of knowledge in their content area. In the program, students will study various factors that influence curriculum and pedagogy, learning theories and methodologies, assessments and how to interpret assessment data, and effective communication skills for collaborating with parents, colleagues and professionals. Graduates of our program are also expected to be committed to the highest quality of competence, ethics, and integrity in the practice of the profession. 

Program Features

The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program is one of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission accepted advanced programs for certification upgrade. 

This program is designed to prepare our students with the knowledge and skills to develop into curriculum leaders with a strong understanding of curriculum development, evaluation and implementation. The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction is designed for Georgia teachers who hold a current renewable teaching certificate or state-issued equivalent and wish to earn a graduate degree by doing advanced work in their teaching field. 

Career Opportunities

Our graduates find careers as teachers and administrators in both public and private schools, and some go on to teach at the university level. Recent program graduates have entered doctoral programs at Georgia Southern University, North Carolina State University, and Mercer University. Other graduates have moved into leadership positions as assistant principals or other school district level central office positions.

Course of Study

Students will take a total of 33 credit hours, including 6 hours of electives in their specialized discipline area.
