Right Brain & Left Brain Meet the Common Core
Engaging Reluctant Readers & Elevating Proficient Learners Through Poetry and Technology
Featuring BROD BAGERT, Award-Winning Author and Poet for Teachers
Mr. Bagert will present a 1-hour Keynote Presentation and offer workshops during Breakout Sessions A and B Brod Bagert is the award-winning author of 17 books of poetry for children, young-adults, and adults. His work has received numerous awards, including International Reading Association's prestigious Young Adults Choices award. In collaboration with hundreds of classroom teachers, Brod writes poetry across the grade K-8 curriculum—poems that are rock-solid on Common Core State Standards and richly entertaining for students. Mr. Bagert has helped change children's poetry, focusing on performance as well as the poem itself. Throw in a touch of humor, and the result is a new type of poetic experience for all, proving that meeting CCSS can be fun.
and SARA KAJDER, Author, Teacher, and Digital Literacy Expert
Ms. Kajder will present workshops during Breakout Sessions A and B for teachers of all grade levels. Sara Kajder is a middle-grades English teacher, author, and consultant. A former professor and high school English teacher, she received the first National Technology Fellowship in English/Language Arts. A nationally-known speaker, she is also the author of the 2012 Britton Award winning Adolescents' Digital Literacies: Learning Alongside Our Students as well as Bringing the Outside In and The Tech-Savvy English Classroom. Sara will share the new technologies that will engage and motivate our 21st century learners and share new digital tools for teaching all writers in Digital Writer's Workshop.
