Install Only One Version of Java

Java is required to use features such as Chat, Whiteboard, HTML Creator and My Computer. Vista eClassroomworks best with only ONE supported version of Java installed. Multiple installations of Java may result in sluggish performance or the "login loop," where users "get kicked out of Vista" without warning. Therefore, it is critically important that users do not install multiple versions of Java on their machine(s).

Please install Java JRE 1.6.0_26.
Please note that this version of Java is approved for both Vista eClassroom and ADP.

If you need to remove other versions of Java before installing a supported version of Java, please see "
How Do I Remove an Incompatible Java Version on a Windows Computer and Install a Compatible Version?"

Some users have reported difficulties with the latest version of the Java Run-Time Environment (1.6). It is recommended that an older iteration (previous version) of 1.6 be used if problems occur.

Known Issue:
The latest JAVA update 1.6.0_29 does not work with Respondus LockDown Browser on the newest Operating Systems for MAC (10.6 and 10.7). If you find that your computer has updated you will need to roll back to a previous version of JAVA or go to another computer to use the Respondus LockDown Browser.

If you have a 32-bit computer, you will use only the jre-6u26-windows-i586.exe (15.85 MB) link.

If you have a 64-bit computer, you will need to use the jre-6u-26-windows-i586.exe (15.85 MB) AND the jre-6u26-windows-x64.exe (16.14 MB) link. This is generally for computers running the Windows 7 Operating System.

Please note that JAVA 1.7 is NOT supported for Armstrong's Vista eClassroom at this time.
