Independent Study
Independent, or "correspondence," study is individual instruction by mail, internet, and/or distance learning. Study opportunities are free of time and place constraints that are typical of most other forms of instruction. The University System of Georgia Independent Study Catalog and a directory of programs and courses offered nationwide are available in the Office of Testing, Memorial College Center, Room 206.
If you want an independent study course to apply to an academic program of study, you must be certain that it meets the requirements of the institution from which you will earn your degree. Students enrolled at Armstrong must have approval of the Department Head in their area of study.
Independent study courses usually require one or two examinations. It is possible to arrange for supervision of an exam at Armstrong Atlantic State University in the Office of Testing. Please plan ahead to take advantage of the Independent Study Examinations. Only one independent study exam may be taken in one sitting with a 3-hour limit given for each exam.
To schedule an appointment to take an Independent Study Exam, email testing services at test.aasu@amstrong.edu.
Independent Student Exams are offered most Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thurdays by appointment only. Other options may also be available.
