Dr. Carey Adams
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Carey Adams joined Armstrong on July 1, 2012 as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Before coming to Armstrong, Adams was dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. During his tenure at Missouri State, he earned numerous awards, including the MSU University Award for Teaching, the MSU College of Arts and Letters Award for Excellence in Teaching and the MSU Graduate College Award for Excellence in MSAS Online Instruction.
An accomplished educator and administrator, Adams has a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas, as well as an M.A. in Communication Studies from Baylor University and a B.A. in Communication and Religion from William Jewell College. At Missouri State University, he served as co-chair of the university’s Long-range Planning Steering Committee and was a member of the President’s Commission for Diversity, the University Marketing Task Force and the Community Foundation of the Ozarks’ Arts Programming Sustainability Initiative.
An active community volunteer and communications specialist, Adams has been a member of the Council of Colleges of Arts & Sciences, the International Council of Fine Arts Deans, the American Conference of Academic Deans Communication Association and the International Communication Association.
