ATLANTA (AP) - The state Board of Regents has named a Georgia Southern University administrator as the next president of Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah.

Linda Bleicken has been the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Georgia Southern in Statesboro since 2005. She is expected to take office July 1.

Bleicken replaces President Thomas Z. Jones, who retires this year after nine years at the helm of the 18,000-student university. She began her career at Georgia Southern in 1990 as a professor in the management program.

She got her bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. from Georgia State University in Atlanta.
