Atlanta Business Chronicle - Search for New USG Chancellor
By Dave Williams
Seven members of the University System Board of Regents and three school presidents will serve on a selection committee named Thursday to recommend a new chancellor for the 35-institution system.
The 21-member committee will work with an executive search firm in helping choose a successor to Chancellor Erroll B. Davis Jr. Davis announced last month that he will leave office next June after more than five years in the post.
The search committee will include Willis Potts, chairman of the Board of Regents, and fellow regents Kessel Stelling Jr., Kenneth Bernard Jr., Robert Hatcher, Wanda Yancey Rodwell, Benjamin Tarbutton III and Richard Tucker.
University of Georgia President Michael Adams will also join the panel, along with Linda Bleicken, president of Armstrong Atlantic State University, and Gary McGaha, president of Atlanta Metropolitan College.
The private and nonprofit sectors will be represented on the search committee by Philip Wilheit Jr., president of Wilheit Packaging LLC, and Mike Cassidy, president and CEO of the Georgia Research Alliance.
Wilheit chaired Gov.-elect Nathan Deal¹s campaign this year and is serving on the Republican¹s transition committee.
Dallas-based R. William Funk & Associates will act as consultants to the panel.
The committee will forward the credentials of up to five unranked candidates to the full Board of Regents, which will have the ultimate say on who becomes the system's 12th chancellor.
