ATLANTA -- The University System of Georgia announced a 21-member committee Thursday that will search for the successor to Chancellor Erroll Davis who is retiring next year.
The committee includes Linda Bleicken, president of Armstrong Atlantic State University, seven members of the Board of Regents and the presidents of the University of Georgia and Atlanta Metropolitan College.
Also included is Philip Wilheit, a Gainesville businessman very close to Gov.-elect Nathan Deal. One day earlier, Deal named Wilheit a vice chairman of his transition team.
The committee is working with the search firm R. William Funk & Associates of Dallas, Texas, to conduct a national search. Committee Chairman Willis Potts, the chairman of the Board of Regents, did not announce a timetable for the committee’s recommendations of five candidates to the full board.
