Men of Vision and Excellence (M.O.V.E.)

Armstrong State University received a grant in an effort to retain and matriculate African-American Men. The African-American Male Initiative will progress as “M.O.V.E” or “Men Of Vision and Excellence”.  The departments responsible for implementing, maintaining, and overseeing student success are The Office Of Multicultural Affairs and First Year Experience. 

With support of five peer “MOVE MENTORS” and two Graduate Assistants, we have the capabilities to support incoming African-American Male students by:

  • Providing additional academic support services through the office of First Year Experience with (FYE) with tutorial sessions, guidance on class registration, and filling in the student participant needs for academic excellenceFocus groups that touch on current trends in higher education for matriculating African-American Male students.
  • Conference opportunities.
  • Social outings, Empowerment Sessions, and speakers designed to peek student needs and interest.
  • Providing 1:1 support staff in an effort to meet the needs of Armstrong’s African-American Male students, and giving those students support through the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), First Year Experience, and the University’s leading Faculty, Staff, and Administrators as well as peer-to-peer mentoring.
