Aid and Scholarship changes for 2013-2014 Academic Year

The Office of Financial Aid hopes that your student is having a great semester! We would like to encourage students and their families to be proactive and schedule an appointment with their financial aid counselor to prepare for the summer term and/or the 2013-2014 academic year. Students and families need to complete the 2013-2014 FAFSA at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov if they have not already done so. There have been recent changes to federal and state aid programs that may impact your student.

Effective immediately, due sequestration legislation, the loan fee for Direct Subsidized Loans and for Direct Unsubsidized Loans has increased from 1.0 percent to 1.051 percent. The loan fee for Direct PLUS Loans (for both parent borrowers) has increased from 4.0 percent to 4.204 percent. Effective Summer 2013 all applicants for State Program Funds will now be required to complete and submit a FAFSA each year to determine eligibility for student aid.

All students receiving State Program Funds (i.e. HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarship) must have a 2012-2013 FAFSA on file by April 12,2013 to determine eligibility for the summer 2013 term. The last day to complete a 2012-2013 FAFSA is June 30, 2013. You must have a 2013-2014 FAFSA on file for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Important announcements, reminders and notifications from the Office of Financial Aid are sent to your students' Armstrong email account. Students may review their Financial Aid information via their Port account. You may check the Financial Aid website for up to date News and Events as well as an overview of the types of financial aid and eligibility requirements. The Office of Financial Aid publishes scholarship opportunities on our website.

The Office of Financial Aid is here to assist students and their families navigate the financial aid process. Often students do not visit until they are experiencing a financial crisis or issue. Do not let this happen to you. The office has a dedicated walk in counselor available to students to drop in and ask questions. Students are assigned a personal counselor, by last name, responsible for processing their financial aid. To schedule an appointment, please call 912.344.3266.

We look forward to seeing you!

Sincerely,
Office of Financial Aid
