Luis Ruiz Class of 2009 Educator

A hard-working international student, Ruiz chose a career in teaching because he finds the field to be most rewarding. A self-taught musician, he was the recipient of a national scholarship awarded by the National Council of La Raza. The organization chose Ruiz’s autobiographical essay from among hundreds submitted by other Latino students in a national contest. Participants were asked to write about personal experiences as Latino leaders and describe what steps they had taken to promote tolerance and inclusion in their communities.
