Former Director of Minority Affairs, Armstrong
Owens was the first African American to seek admission to Armstrong in 1961. He did not gain entry until 1978, after his retirement from the U.S. Marines. In 1983 he returned to Armstrong as the first minority recruiter and then as the founding director of the Office of Minority Affairs, a position he held until his retirement in 1999.
