After receiving his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of North Carolina, Dr. Crider joined the Magnolia Petroleum Company as a senior research technologist. He holds five patents in the area of crude oil recovery. In 1964, he returned to Savannah to teach at Armstrong Junior College as professor of chemistry and first head of the chemistry and physics department. He is an ordained deacon in the Roman Catholic Church, serving at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Cochran, Georgia from 1985-1990, the year he returned to Tybee Island, his current home.
