Ireland and Wales: Culture and Environment
Students will experience Irish and Welsh cultures while visiting cities, towns, and villages of varying sizes. Cultural and historical activities are likely to include visiting the Poulnabrone portal tomb, the Cliffs of Moher, Caernarfon Castle, Auchnanure Castle, Dun Aengus and Black Fort ring forts; listening to formal and informal traditional music in multiple cities and towns, attending a play in Dublin, visiting museums, walking tours of Galway and Dublin, Trinity College, the Book of Kells, Mt. Snowdon, Welsh Highland Railway, Llangollen Canal and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
Economics topics include the environment of Ireland and Wales and the relationship among industry, tourism, and energy policy. We will also discuss the regression of the Irish economy as it falls back away from the peak years of the previous decade. Other academic subjects may be approved and included with the permission of the students' major adviser and department head.
We plan to visit Clare, Connemara, Galway, the Aran Islands, and Dublin, Ireland along with Caernarfon, Porthmadog, and Llangollen, Wales.
