The University System of Georgia (USG) allows 12 holidays per year that are recognized and taken off with pay. Some holidays are standardized and others are at the discretion of the institution. The holidays approved by the institution for calendar year 2013 are as follows:

In addition, the University will be closed on Memorial Day (May 26th). Since this additional holiday is over and above the 12 allotted by the USG, staff and administration have the following options:
- Use eight hours of annual leave for Memorial Day.
- Work an additional eight hours during the remainder of the Memorial Day week, Saturday, May 24 - Friday, May 30. With supervisor approval you may elect to work the additional eight hours throughout the week including Saturday and Sunday or four ten hour days.
- Take the day off without pay. Those requesting leave without pay must send a memo to Human Resources indicating that the absence will be leave without pay. The memo must be approved by the immediate supervisor and received by Human Resources no later than the monthly maintenance deadline (May 10).
Since there will be no classes on Memorial Day, this does not apply to 10-month faculty as this holiday has been factored into their summer contract.
The University administration recognizes the importance of the Memorial Day holiday; we encourage you to use this time to recognize the supreme sacrifice that has been made by members of the armed forces on our behalf.
