Your Financial Aid Road Map

Finding ways to fund your education can be a bumpy road. That is why the Office of Financial Aid is here to offer you a road map and tools you will need to make it to your destination: Graduation.

Step 1

To get moving, you will need to apply for Financial Aid.
  • If you are interested in Federal Financial Aid, such as Pell Grant and Stafford Loans, you must complete a FAFSA each year you plan to attend Armstrong. The FAFSA will also allow the Office of Financial Aid to evaluate your HOPE Scholarship eligibility.
  • If you are only interested in State Financial Aid, such as the HOPE Scholarship, you may complete a Georgia Student Finance Application (GSFAPP). This application does not require renewal each academic year.

Verifcation
If you complete a FAFSA, it is important to know that the Department of Education selects one out of every three FAFSA's for a process called Verification. The Verification process is a quality control method to ensure that accurate information is being provided on the FAFSA to protect taxpayers and ensure the availability of government funding. Some students consider Verification a speed bump; however, if you are selected for Verification, be sure to turn in the proper documentation in a timely manner so that your Financial Aid process will not be delayed. You will be notified through your SHIP account and student e-mail of the documentation that will be needed to complete the Verification process. You can find the Verification forms available on the Forms page of this website.

What you will need:
  1. Verification Worksheet
  2. Credits and Benefits Worksheet
  3. Tax Transcripts
  4. W-2's
  5. Other (as requested by the Office of Financial Aid)

Be sure to check your SHIP account to View Your Outstanding Requirements to determine exactly which documents the Office of Financial Aid needs to process your Financial Aid.

Step 2

Once your application process is complete you will receive an award letter that you may view through your SHIP account. For more information regarding your award letter, you may click Review Your Award or Receive Your Award.

If you are eligible for Pell Grant or SEOG, it will automatically post to your award.

Step 3

Apply for Scholarships! For more information regarding Scholarships and how to apply, please review our Scholarships information page.

Step 4

If HOPE Scholarship did not automatically appear on your award in your SHIP account and you would like to be evaluated, please complete the HOPE Evaluation Request Form and return it to the Office of Financial Aid.  This form and many others are available on our Forms page.

Step 5

A Stafford Loan will automatically post to your award letter; however, if you have never received a loan through AASU, you must complete the steps necessary for the loan to disburse. If you are interested in receiving Loans, please be sure to review all the information we have available concerning loans by viewing our Loans information page.

Step 6

Apply for Student Employment! For more information regarding Student Employment and how to apply, please review our Student Employment information page.
