Financial Aid

How to Apply!

Step 1

Borrowers must apply for a federal Personal Identification Number (PIN) at www.pin.ed.gov. This is the same PIN you will use to sign your FAFSA.

Step 2

Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. One out of every three FAFSA's are selected for the Verification process by the Federal Department of Education. This process must be completed to receive a Federal Direct loan. You will be notified via Port of Armstrong what is needed to complete this process if selected.

Step 3

Students wishing to receive a Direct loan are required to accept their loan on their award.  For click-by-click instructions on how to accept your loan, view Accepting & Changing Your Award.

Step 4

Sign your electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN) using your PIN at www.studentloans.gov. Borrowers do not have to re-sign each year for future Direct or PLUS loans.

Step 5

Complete Entrance Counseling at www.studentloans.gov. Entrance Counseling is required to receive a Direct or Graduate PLUS loan. It is not required for a Parent PLUS loan. You are not required to complete Entrance Counseling if you have completed Entrance Counseling at Armstrong previously.

Your Direct loan will not disburse until each step has been completed.
