Dr. Michael Donahue
Vice President for External Affairs
Michael Donahue, vice president for external affairs and executive vice president for the AASU Foundation since 2007, has been a part of the university since 1993, when he began as one of our distinguished professors. His career dates back to 1983 when he served as a police officer and director of planning and research for the Savannah, Georgia Police Department while also serving as a consultant to several municipal, county, state and federal organizations. In 1987, Michael became assistant professor in criminal justice and political science at Appalachian State University before coming to AASU where his career led him from that of professor to head of the department of criminal justice, social and political science, director of regional education and associate vice president for external affairs.
Michael graduated from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in 1975 with a bachelor of arts in philosophy. In 1977, he obtained his master of science in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina followed by a Ph.D. in social science from Michigan State University in 1983.
Today, in addition to his vice presidential positions with AASU, Michael also serves on the Cyber Security Research Institute Foundation and the Educational Properties Foundation, Inc.
