10/27/14 - 10/28/14
USG Peachnet/Internet Services Maintenance 10/27 11 pm to 10/28 8 am - USG Peachnet Services will be performing optical upgrades that will impact Armstrong’s internet traffic. This will cause intermittent internet outages during the maintenance period. During the maintenance period access to web services including Armstrong website, Port of Armstrong, SHIP, D2L and student email will be impacted from both on and off campus.
IT Services restored Voicemail system services on 10/13/14 approximately 10:50 a.m.
IT Services resolved an issue with the the attendant Voicemail Messaging system error on the morning of 10/6/14. For a brief period the normal attendant recording received when retrieving voicemail messages had been overwritten. IT Services resolved the issue and made an adjustment to avoid this in the future.
9/26/14 - 9/27/14
VOIP/Telephone System Upgrade - Friday, September 26, 2014 at 6 pm through Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 6 pm
Beginning on Friday, September 26 at 6:00 pm, all telephones communications will be terminated to support phase 1 (of 3) of the system-wide upgrade. Services will be restored by Saturday, September 27 at 6:00pm. During this outage, there will be no VOICE/telephone service in any capacity for campus; with the exception of University Police whose service will remain uninterrupted and function as normal.

Port of Armstrong access was uanaviailable for about an hour and half. IT Services resolved the issue and continued monitoring the hardware equipment.

Armstrong BLAST system test performed on 8/26/14 for all Armstrong Students, Faculty and Staff:
Hopefully you received an Armstrong BLAST system test message yesterday via text, phone and/or email. Armstrong's BLAST system is designed to notify the Armstrong community in the event of an emergency and other notices that require your immediate attention.
Why sign up? BLAST handles communication with the Armstrong campus in emergencies, like extreme weather, power failures, by pushing out critical information, keeping them safe and informed.
If you did not receive a test message yesterday, please sign up for BLAST messages by logging into your PORT account. Click on the link to update your information located inside the Portlet named, “Update BLAST Information.” Fill in the appropriate fields, then Click Submit Changes. Armstrong Wireless - Welcome back Armstrong Faculty! During the summer break IT Services has introduced a new wireless network named "Armstrong". This service requires your Active Directory credentials.
The new wireless network provides a better experience for our students, faculty, and staff to maintain continuous WiFi access through one WiFi network. The “Armstrong” wireless network only requires a one-time setup on each device. Once you complete the initial setup, you will not need to login again unless you change your password.
Use the Wireless FAQ to find the information to connect your mobile devices and laptop. The "Armstrong" wireless network will require users to login with their Active Directory credentials. If you have forgotten your Active Directory password, please follow this link to reset.
7/29/14 - 7/30/14
Peachnet Maintenance 7/29 11 pm - 7/30 5 am - USG Peachnet Services will be performing system upgrades to replace the PeachNet router at Armstrong. This will cause a service outage for Armstrong State as well as Savannah State and sites that are dependent on them.
As a result internet traffic to and from campus will be unavailable. The Armstrong Wifi will be available and campus dorm connectivity will remain active to access off campus resources
Faculty_WLAN and Compass WiFi Network Retiring on 7/13/2014 - The new wireless network provides a better experience for you by maintaining a continuous WiFi connection throughout campus. Printing services to departmental networked printers have been enabled on the Armstrong WiFi !

Upcoming Desire2Learn Maintenance: Extended downtime for Desire2Learn is scheduled for Friday, June 27 beginning at 10 p.m. through Saturday, June 28 at 10 a.m. to accommodate growth in Desire2Learn into the coming future.

IT Services worked with Google for a resolution on login issues with Students accessing email through Port of Armstrong. Google resolved the issue and has deemed services as being stable.
Compass and Faculty_WLAN WiFi Network Retires on June 13, 2014!
Status: The new wireless network named "Armstrong" is available for all faculty, staff, and students!
The new wireless network provides a better experience for our students to maintain continuous WiFi access. Introducing this new service brings us closer to having single sign-on ability for technology resources on campus. The “Armstrong” wireless network only requires a one-time setup on each device. Once you complete the initial setup, you will not need to login again unless you change your password.
Actions: Confirm you have access to the “Armstrong” Wireless network today before the service becomes unavailable. Use the Wireless FAQ to find the information to connect your mobile devices and laptop.

Google Groups will replace the mailman mailing list on February 18, 2014
Google provides distribution list capability through Google Groups. Google Groups for Business will replace our current Mailman mailing list on February 18, 2014. IT Services is creating the Google Groups to replace the current mailman mailing list accounts and will be in contact with those mailing list owners to provide training material and assistance.
The employee mailing list email address has been changed to email@example.com. Messages sent to this mailing list are moderated by IT Services and only Armstrong related email messages should be sent to this address.
The student mailing list email address has been changed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Messages sent to this mailing list are moderated by IT Services and only important Armstrong related email messages should be sent to this group address. Biweekly newsletters, What's going on Armstrong and Important Announcements, are the primary electronic way to communicate campus information to students. Representatives from each of the departments should have access to submit an announcement for the student newsletter through Port of Armstrong.
Building A Better U Java Update and Banner INB Java Issues
This announcement is for users who access Banner INB, ADP Approving Managers, and/or users accessing a web-based application that requires previous versions of Java.
Please be advised that updating Java in order to access Building A Better U will cause access issues in applications requiring previous Java versions, such as Banner INB and the Approving Managers module of ADP. If you access either of these applications, please delay accessing Building A Better U for a few days as IT Services works with Human Resources to resolve this issue.
Google Issues Resolved
Earlier this afternoon, Google reported issues with Google services, including Gmail. Google has reported that they have resolved the issue and Google services are back up and running.

Gmail Login Update
Google has revised the login page for Gmail resources. Because of this change, employees will now be required to type out their full email address (including "@armstrong.edu") to log into their Armstrong Gmail account. Below is a screen shot of the new landing page.
Please note there are two ways for employees to access their Armstrong Gmail account; go directly to Gmail.com or through the login Armstrong page.
IT Services Advisement: Strong Passwords
In the past few months, there has been a surge of online hacking and phishing schemes. IT Services would like to take a moment to address account security and encourage members of our campus community to ensure they have strong passwords.
Weak passwords are passwords that are easily guessed by unauthorized users. Examples include "1234", "password", "password1234", etc. Also, passwords that match the mailbox username are weak. A weak password may enable unauthorized access to email messages or it may enable an unauthorized user to send spam from the compromised account.
Strong passwords are case-sensitive and contain at least eight (8) characters including letters, numbers and symbols. Change your passwords regularly. Store your passwords in a secure location and do not share them with others.
IT Services response to compromised Armstrong accounts. If suspicious account activity is brought to IT Services' attention, we will investigate the account, determine if any actions are necessary, and work with the user to reconcile the account. Internet Connectivity Update
Internet connectivity on-campus was down for about thirty minutes this morning due to an off campus fiber cut that affected our PeachNet fiber. On-campus and off-campus services have been restored.
